Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) agreed to strengthen collaboration through various strategic initiatives, including human resource capacity development, innovation promotion, and increasing intellectual property (IP) literacy in the community for sustainable development.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono met with WIPO Director General Daren Tang in Jakarta on Tuesday, following up on their previous meeting in Geneva in February 2025.

During the talks, Sugiono and Tang discussed the development of an innovation ecosystem in Indonesia and explored opportunities to leverage IP to drive national economic growth.

"WIPO's support is vital for Indonesia to fully utilize IP in achieving its national goals," Sugiono noted in an official statement received here on Tuesday.

He also emphasized the importance of integrating sustainable development elements into all WIPO programs and initiatives, as well as promoting the use of IP that directly supports poverty alleviation and improves public welfare.

He also witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) on IP Training for Diplomats, an agreement forming the basis for cooperation in enhancing the capacity of Indonesian diplomats in IP. This initiative aims to strengthen IP-based economic and innovation diplomacy in international forums.

Meanwhile, Tang expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's progress in building an inclusive IP ecosystem, including its applications in the creative economy, industry, and the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.

The WIPO director general also affirmed the organization's readiness to support Indonesia through training, technical assistance, and collaborative efforts to implement concrete programs.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of Indonesia and WIPO to enhancing cooperation in IP and highlighted the importance of their partnership in making IP a driver of inclusive, sustainable, and forward-looking economic development.
