Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia called for collaboration between ASEAN and Latin American countries to strengthen their intellectual property (IP) offices by prudently utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

In her office's statement received here on Thursday, the Intellectual Property Director General at Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Ministry, Min Usihen, highlighted the need for such collaboration as AI, despite offering a plethora of conveniences, also poses various challenges to humanity.

Speaking at a meeting held on the sidelines of the 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Member States in Switzerland on July 15, she stated that AI is the result of rapid technological developments that heavily affect people's lives.

Usihen remarked that the Law and Human Rights Ministry had begun promoting the use of AI to facilitate the search for information related to patents and brands in the digital space.

She then expressed optimism that the expected cooperation between ASEAN and Latin American IP offices regarding the use of AI would help Indonesia make the most of AI for business processes.

Meanwhile, WIPO Director General Daren Tang supported Indonesia's push for interregional synergy, saying that collaboration between IP offices in Southeast Asia and Latin America would lead to mutual benefits.

In addition to the WIPO leader, the meeting was attended by Director of WIPO's IP Business Office Solutions Divisions, William Meredith, and Director of WIPO's IP and Frontier Technologies Division, Ulrike Till.

On the occasion, the two figures delivered a presentation regarding steps taken by the WIPO to develop various AI-powered technology systems. They expressed optimism over the use of AI to facilitate IP-related business processes.
