"Not only in terms of the size of the industry, but as policymakers, we have to be the driving force, because, believe it or not, the only country consistently recognized for its hexahelix implementation is Indonesia, and it is being actively implemented," she stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
During a discussion with the local intellectual property (IP) creator community, Umar stated that Indonesia would emulate the United Kingdom, regarded globally as the "father of the creative economy."
The British Council also recently acknowledged Indonesia's hexahelix approach, which fosters creative economy growth through collaboration.
According to the deputy minister, making Indonesia the creative economy hub of Southeast Asia or ASEAN requires developing local IP and leveraging the strength of creator communities across Indonesia.
Umar explained that the Ministry of Creative Economy, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, will work to tap into the potential of creators whose works are rooted in Indonesian cultural heritage.
"We cannot deny the many external influences, and let us not forget the source code. The government has a tough task to improve this further and to sort out the source code across ministries," she stated.
The deputy minister also emphasized that by 2045, the creative economy would become a new engine of economic growth, as creativity is inexhaustible—unlike natural resources, which may eventually run out—especially when combined with population growth.
She also encouraged collaboration across ministries and stakeholders to set shared targets for turning the creative economy into a new source of economic growth.
"The source of creativity is limitless. With 280 million people, plus the support of AI, if each person can quadruple their productivity, we will have a billion people with limitless productivity. Thus, by 2045, we will have achieved a Golden Indonesia, with creative economy as the new engine of growth," she remarked.
