Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has said that the designation of 36 public airports as international airports reflects efforts to promote economic equality across the country.

“President Prabowo (Subianto) instructed the opening of as many international airports as possible in regions to accelerate economic growth and boost regional tourism,” the minister stated in a statement released on Thursday.

The designation of the 36 international airports through Ministerial Decree Number KM 37 of 2025 is aimed at strengthening the national aviation industry as well as promoting tourism, trade, and investment.

Purwagandhi has tasked the Director General of Civil Aviation with overseeing the implementation of the ministerial decree.

According to the minister, the status of international airports will be evaluated every two years.

“We have several mandatory administrative requirements for each airport operator, including safety, security, and service requirements as an international airport before the start of the international flights,” he said.
