Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the vision of Indonesia's founding fathers, including independence proclamators Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta, remains highly relevant in guiding the nation’s progress and addressing present-day challenges.

Delivering his first state address at the 2025 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Jakarta on Friday, Prabowo described those who dismiss their ideas as misguided and arrogant.

“I observe that some elites in Indonesia tend to view themselves as the smartest people in the republic. They see the thoughts of Soekarno, Hatta, and other independence figures as outdated for the challenges we face in the 21st century,” he said.

Rejecting this notion, the president emphasized that Indonesia’s freedom fighters and founding fathers possessed profound insight into the nation’s needs, having directly experienced and fought against colonialism and imperialism.

“Their experiences led them to develop a national blueprint that clearly outlines how to manage the economy and strengthen our democracy,” he stressed.

Prabowo expressed confidence that faithfully implementing this blueprint would help Indonesia become a stronger and more resilient nation.

The address was delivered during the 2025 MPR Annual Session, which was held in conjunction with the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) on Friday morning.

In his remarks, the president reported on his administration’s performance during its first 300 days. He is scheduled to deliver a second address in the afternoon to present the 2026 State Budget before a DPR plenary session.

The morning session was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, and DPD Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, along with several cabinet ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, and Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar.

Former presidents and vice presidents also attended, including Seventh President Joko Widodo, Sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno, Tenth and Twelfth Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Eleventh Vice President Boediono, and Thirteenth Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.
