Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the development of subsidized housing has a significant impact on improving workers’ welfare and creating new employment opportunities.

He further noted that the initial target of providing 20,000 subsidized housing units for workers has now been revised upward to 50,000 units by the end of 2025.

“This target adjustment was made due to the high interest shown by workers in this program,” Yassierli said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

This follows a subsidized housing program involving various business sectors, ranging from building materials industries to construction services.

“This program is not just about building houses, but also about building the people’s economy and opening job opportunities. This is something that excites us,” he added.

The Ministry of Manpower, together with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), has agreed to strengthen cooperation in providing subsidized housing for workers.

This effort is reinforced through the signing of a cooperation agreement supporting the Decent Housing Ownership Program via Tapera Financing and the Prosperous Home Ownership Credit Program.

“This collaboration is believed not only to improve workers’ welfare but also to become a key driver of national economic growth,” Yassierli said.

On the other hand, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait emphasized that this cross-ministry collaboration is a concrete demonstration of the government’s commitment to laborers and workers.

“This is a beautiful collaboration between ministries and the entire housing ecosystem, realized through a subsidized housing program that delivers tangible benefits,” Maruarar said.

According to Maruarar, housing sector policies are currently highly favored by workers. This growing interest aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s policy to increase the national subsidized housing quota from 220,000 to 350,000 units.

In addition, the President has introduced several incentives, including exemptions from VAT on houses priced below IDR 2 billion, exemption from Land and Building Acquisition Duty (BPHTB), and exemption from Building Approval Fees (PBG) for low-income communities (MBR).

“These policies represent effective government intervention,” Maruarar said.

Furthermore, he said the subsidized housing program is viewed as a strategic solution to address the housing backlog and improve unfit housing conditions through stimulus assistance, slum area redevelopment, and the construction of infrastructure and settlement facilities.

“Next month (September), we will launch the construction of 25,000 houses, and by December 2025, a total of 50,000 units will be completed, mostly for laborers and workers,” Maruarar concluded.
