"I believe that our Constitution, especially the articles I call safeguards, such as Article 33 paragraphs 1, 2, 3, and 4, are the fortress of our economic defense," Prabowo said in his state address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament Building, here on Friday.
The president stated that Article 33 paragraph 1 emphasizes that the economy is structured as a joint effort based on the family principle, not the principle of conglomeration.Units of production that are essential for the country and control the livelihoods of many people must be controlled by the state.
The president said that rice and rice milling commodities are sectors that control the livelihoods of many people. However, there are some entrepreneurs who use the power of capital to dominate and manipulate people's lives.
"Meanwhile, not all of them, I must be honest, there are businessmen who actually use their power, their capital, to dominate and manipulate people's lives, and we cannot accept this," Prabowo said.
In Article 3, the constitution mandates that the land, water, and natural resources contained are controlled by the state for the greatest prosperity of the people.
Meanwhile, Article 4 regulates the implementation of the national economy based on the principles of economic democracy with the principles of togetherness, efficiency, and justice.
"So, this efficiency is a mandate of the Constitution. But some are protesting against it. This must protect environmental sustainability, promote independence, and maintain a balance between progress and national economic unity," the president continued.
