Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo reminded the public that the rupiah is a symbol of national sovereignty, fought for by the country’s heroes, and must be preserved, respected, and cherished by all Indonesians.

“We must protect it together, use it with pride, and understand its role in the national economy,” Perry said when opening the 2025 Festival Rupiah Berdaulat Indonesia (FERBI) in Jakarta on Friday.

He emphasized that the rupiah is not merely a means of payment but also a national identity and a reflection of Indonesia’s cultural and historical heritage.

Perry urged citizens to love the rupiah by recognizing its features and designs, using it as the sole legal tender in Indonesia, and understanding its role in the money circulation system.

BI Deputy Governor Ricky Perdana Gozali expressed appreciation to all partners of the Rupiah Currency Management (PUR) program for ensuring the availability of high-quality and reliable banknotes across the country.

He also launched the Rupiah Love, Pride, Understanding (CBP) Synergy Education initiative to expand public literacy on the currency in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the National Library, Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and the Indonesian Educational Psychologists Association.

The program aims to instill awareness about the rupiah from an early age.

FERBI 2025 is being held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, from August 15 to 17, serving as a collaborative and interactive platform to enhance public understanding of the rupiah’s role in Indonesia’s history and sovereignty, while fostering national pride.

The opening ceremony was attended by BI’s institutional partners, including ministries, the National Police, the Indonesian Navy, state-owned security printing firm Peruri, banking institutions, and associations.

The festival features a national dialogue titled “Safeguarding National Sovereignty through the Rupiah” with speakers including descendants of national heroes, textile preservation designers, and law enforcement officers tackling counterfeit currency.

The discussion highlights the importance of valuing the rupiah, especially among younger generations, to strengthen patriotism and national unity.

The event also offers the “Rupiah: A Symbol of National Sovereignty” exhibition, coin and commemorative IDR 75,000 banknote exchanges, the CBP Rupiah Championship, and various activities for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day.

FERBI is open to the public free of charge.
