"I would like to convey my sincere congratulations on the happy occasion of Indonesia's 80th Independence Day," PM Wong said in his letter to President Prabowo, which was published on the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on Sunday (8/17).
Wong highlighted Indonesia’s rapid progress in national and economic development, noting that the country has become a respected, trusted, and constructive member of ASEAN and a key voice on the international stage.
He commended President Prabowo’s leadership in taking bold steps to improve the lives of Indonesians, including strengthening food and energy security, developing human resources, and safeguarding national economic interests.
These achievements, Wong said, are a testament to President Prabowo’s vision and decisiveness, as well as the dynamism of the Indonesian people.
"This is a valuable opportunity to reaffirm our shared strategic vision for bilateral relations and chart a path forward for further collaboration in areas such as trade and investment, defense, energy, and food security," he said.
Singapore and Indonesia would continue to explore new opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of both nations, including through ASEAN cooperation in promoting regional peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam also extended his congratulations to President Prabowo and the Indonesian people on the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence.
"On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to congratulate Your Majesty and the people of the Republic of Indonesia on the important occasion of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day," President Shanmugaratnam said.
He praised Indonesia’s transformation, progress, and spirit of unity since 1945, calling it an inspiring story. Indonesia, he noted, continues to achieve rapid economic growth, advance its people, and serve as a respected voice in the global community.
"This is a testament to Indonesia’s enduring commitment to its founding principles, namely Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Your ideals of harmony and mutual respect are indeed values embraced by Singaporean society," he said.
President Shanmugaratnam also underlined the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, which long predate their respective independence.
He added that President Prabowo’s attendance at Singapore’s 60th National Day Parade this month reflected the close friendship between the two nations.
"As we celebrate our respective milestones this month, I look forward to the next chapter in our friendship, which is built on the strong foundation of mutual understanding, trust, and respect between our peoples," he said.
This year’s commemoration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day carries the theme “United Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia.” President Prabowo Subianto led the anniversary ceremony at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
