According to an official statement cited in Jakarta on Sunday, Prime Minister Wong, accompanied by his spouse, greeted the Indonesian leader. The three then posed for a photo session inside the gallery.
Prabowo later joined PM Wong for a tea party, where he was seated between the Singaporean leader and Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi.
Shortly before the main event began, an announcer invited Prabowo to the main stage, where he was introduced to the Singaporean public as the eighth president of Indonesia, inaugurated on October 20 last year.
The Indonesian head of state also greeted Singapore’s third prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong, in a display of personal ties before the parade commenced.
Prabowo’s attendance signified Indonesia’s respect and support for Singapore’s Independence Day celebrations and reflected his commitment to stepping up bilateral ties between the two neighboring nations.
This year’s National Day carried the theme “Majulah Singapura” (Onward Singapore) — directly taken from the national anthem — to encourage the public to cherish 60 years of independence of Singapore, reflect on the past, and look forward with courage and unity.
The parade, held at an area called the Padang, featured 40 contingents representing the military, civil society, and youth, as well as an air show and a feu-de-joie, or celebratory gun salute.
A highlight of this year’s celebrations was the Mobile Column to Heartlands, an attraction jointly performed by the army, navy, and air force of Singapore.
