Speaking at Brawijaya University (UB) in Malang, East Java, on Monday, he said science provides a strong foundation to ensure policies comply with governance rules and safeguard environmental sustainability.
"We must collaborate by strengthening academic studies. This is an important basis for the Ministry of Environment when we create policy instruments," he said.
Nurofiq explained that the studies cover supervisory mechanisms and law enforcement against violators of government policies.
"Almost 90 percent of policy, supervisory, and law enforcement instruments in the Ministry of Environment are based on science," he noted, adding that cooperation with universities must continue.
He highlighted that graduates of postgraduate programs play a key role in shaping policy and enforcement instruments related to environmental protection in various regions.
"In general, they can provide answers on whether environmental approval should be granted or denied for an activity or project," Nurofiq said.
UB Rector Prof. Widodo also underlined the contribution of postgraduate students, saying they are central to the development of science and technology in universities.
He urged students to take an active role in supporting the government’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly energy processing systems and technological innovation.
"God willing, we will increase our contribution to environmental preservation in Indonesia," Widodo said.
