Jakarta (ANTARA) - Five Indonesian young swimmers are set to compete in the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, taking place at the Otopeni Aquatics Complex, Romania, from August 19 to 24.

The team arrived in Romania on Sunday (Aug. 17), after a brief stop in Hungary where they marked Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day with a visit to the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest.

“So far, everything’s been going well. The weather is similar to Indonesia, and the kids are adjusting fine to the food. They’re quite enthusiastic about the competition, especially since it’s their first World Junior Championships,” coach Albert Christiadi Sutanto told ANTARA via instant message on Monday.

Albert, alongside fellow coach Arif Purbowarsono, will guide the athletes, who range in age from 14 to 17.

The national squad consists of Mochammad Akbar Putra Taufik (17), Reynard Delian Purwanto (17), Adelia Chantika Aulia (14), Michelle Surjadi Fang (16), and Natasha Angelina Oeoen (15).

Despite their youth, all five already have international experience.

Akbar competed at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and recently swam in the open water events at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

Reynard, Adelia, Michelle, and Natasha also represented Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Age Group Aquatics Championships event in Singapore this past June.
