Ahead of the 89th edition of the congress, held in Astana from August 18–22, a Perpusnas delegation attended a ceremony commemorating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day at the Indonesian Embassy in Astana on Sunday (August 17).
In a statement issued Tuesday, Perpusnas' Principal Secretary Joko Santoso said the institution’s presence at the international forum underscores Indonesia's commitment to strengthening literacy and expanding knowledge across the nation.
“Our visit is aimed not only at reinforcing Indonesia’s role in global cooperation networks but also at demonstrating that literacy is central to our national development agenda,” he said.
Santoso added that five Perpusnas officials would deliver presentations on key topics, including the preservation of ancient manuscripts, inclusive bibliographic data, digital library services, and equitable access to information, including content addressing sensitive issues.

He further noted that WLIC 2025 offers Indonesia a critical opportunity to reaffirm its leadership in promoting literacy, advancing knowledge, and deepening cultural diplomacy on the global stage.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Fadjroel Rachman said cultural and knowledge diplomacy could serve as effective tools to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan.
"Perpusnas' involvement in international forums such as IFLA not only enhances Indonesia’s profile in global librarianship but also showcases our rich literary and cultural heritage to the world," he said.
