Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is committed to strengthening its national aviation sector by developing the domestic air transport industry, with a particular focus on the growing potential of helicopters, a minister said.

"We will continue to push this forward. We still need to grow our fixed-wing fleet, and ensure our aircraft are newer and more modern," Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the 2025 Heli Expo Asia (HEXIA) in Tangerang, Banten, he emphasized the strategic role of helicopters in Indonesia's archipelagic geography, where many remote areas remain inaccessible by land or conventional aircraft.

To succeed, he said, collaboration among central and regional governments, as well as the private sector, is essential to build a sustainable and independent aviation infrastructure.

He also praised events like HEXIA — Southeast Asia's largest helicopter exhibition — for showcasing Indonesia's potential as a hub for aviation innovation and business.

"An annual event like HEXIA could draw more visitors and unlock new opportunities," Yudhoyono said.

He added that developing the helicopter industry could spur job creation, business expansion, and overall economic growth.

Meanwhile, Transportation Ministry's Director for Aircraft Airworthiness and Operations Sokhib Al Rokhman said regulatory frameworks are in place to ensure helicopter safety and navigation in line with international standards.
