Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto will address the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters next month, according to the Presidential Communication Office (PCO).

PCO Chief Hasan Nasbi said President Prabowo is scheduled to speak at UNGA's General Debate on September 23, 2025, after Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and United States President Donald Trump.

"According to the latest information, the president will present his remarks on (September) 23. He will be the third in line after the Brazilian and US presidents," Nasbi stated on Friday.

When Prabowo delivers his remarks on September, he will become the first Indonesian president to speak at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in over a decade after the absence of his predecessor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

During his 10-year tenure, Jokowi opted not to attend the UNGA in person, consistently delegating Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to represent Indonesia at the forum.

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to begin on September 9, with its General Debate, where President Prabowo will speak, set to open on September 23.

This year's UNGA General Debate will be chaired by Annalena Baerbock, former foreign minister of Germany, under the theme of "Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”

During the session, each UN member state will have a representative to address national issues, express views on international concerns, and share hopes for the coming year.

The General Debate will commence with a report from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and opening remarks by UNGA President Annalena Baerbock.

Since the 10th UNGA in 1955, it has been tradition for Brazil to speak first at the General Debate, regardless of its level of representation, followed by the host country, the United States.
