Jakarta (ANTARA) - No Indonesians are among the hundreds of fatalities in flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Pakistan since mid-August 2025, according to Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry.

Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Indonesians at the ministry, stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad has been in contact with Indonesians residing in Pakistan, including those in Buner District, one of the hardest-hit areas.

“Our information concludes that no Indonesian has fallen victim to the flash floods and landslides in Pakistan so far,” Nugraha said in a written statement received here on Friday.

However, Indonesians living in Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, were affected by power outages lasting several days due to the disaster, he added.

According to ministry data, 30 Indonesians are living in Buner, all of them housewives.

Nugraha assured that the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad will continue to monitor developments and conditions of Indonesians in Pakistan, and provide assistance if needed or requested.

The Foreign Ministry recorded 1,264 Indonesians living in Pakistan, including 112 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province affected by floods and landslides.

Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Pakistan since August 14 have killed at least 437 people, according to local authorities on Wednesday (August 20).

Since the onset of the monsoon season in June 2025, 748 people have been killed and over 1,000 injured nationwide.

In solidarity with disaster victims in Pakistan, the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad commemorated the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence more modestly.

Ambassador Chandra Warsenato Sukotjo announced during the Independence Day ceremony on Sunday (August 17) that the embassy would not host a diplomatic reception this year.
