Addressing the teachers and principals of the Sekolah Rakyat, the head of state called the construction of more than one hundred Sekolah Rakyat in a relatively short time an extraordinary achievement and accomplishment.
"I am delighted to know that today we have 100 operating Sekolah Rakyat. I consider this achievement as extraordinary," he stated during the briefing for two thousand Sekolah Rakyat teachers and principals in Jakarta on Friday.
Sekolah Rakyat are boarding schools initiated by President Prabowo's administration. The program was first launched in July 2025, targeting students from underprivileged families.
Their school tuition will be free of charge, along with the provision of necessary facilities for education and living in a boarding school.
On the same occasion, Prabowo thanked his ministerial ranks for realizing the 100 Sekolah Rakyat in a relatively short time.
Sekolah Rakyat is a cross-ministerial/institutional program, led by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"I would like to thank the cross-ministerial team that has successfully planned and operated 100 Sekolah Rakyat to date. I proposed the idea in February, and in July, they said they were ready to open the school. This is beyond my expectations," he remarked.
Upon receiving reports from his ministers, the president asked them not to push themselves, noting that the establishment of a school with a completely new system is no simple task.
Despite this, the ministers remain determined to open Sekolah Rakyat in July 2025.
President Prabowo provided a briefing to the principals and teachers at the Sekolah Rakyat retreat at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Several ministers attending the event wore dark green uniforms, similar to teachers and principals' uniforms.
The students performing in the choir also wore the special uniforms for Sekolah Rakyat students, which are predominantly dark red, complete with matching berets.
