“This will mark a new chapter in our education management. As a prototype, Sekolah Rakyat can serve as an inspiration for other schools and will have a tremendous impact,” he said in a written statement received here on Saturday.
He made the statement in front of thousands of teachers and principals during the Sekolah Rakyat teachers and principals training event on Friday (August 22).
Minister Iskandar explained that Sekolah Rakyat represents a breakthrough in addressing structural poverty, as the government plays an active role in providing access to education for children from low-income families.
He stated that the Sekolah Rakyat implementation is supported by the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), ensuring that President Prabowo Subianto’s priority program is on-target.
President Prabowo has instructed the ministry to coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies as well as regional governments to ensure the success of Sekolah Rakyat through Presidential Instruction No. 8/2025.
The Sekolah Rakyat program also marks a shift in the government’s poverty alleviation strategies, from a focus on social assistance to community empowerment.
On that occasion, Iskandar also conveyed his optimism that Sekolah Rakyat would be able to lift three million people out of extreme poverty.
“Sekolah Rakyat will have an impact on three million poor people who will be handled in a meaningful way,” he added.
According to the Social Ministry, Sekolah Rakyat is designed as a boarding school to ensure that students receive optimal education and care. The facilities provided include dormitories for both students and teachers, as well as classrooms equipped with modern learning tools.
