Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan emphasized the importance of equalizing access to higher education and improving the quality of education in the eastern parts of Indonesia, especially Maluku and North Maluku.

"Universities in Maluku and North Maluku must become centers for the emergence of innovation as well as agents of regional development," he confirmed here on Saturday.

During the Coordination Meeting of Higher Education Service Institutions for Region XII in Ambon, Maluku, on Friday, he underlined that higher education development in Indonesia must focus on results and real impact for the community.

He assessed that universities must conduct research and create innovations that can resolve real problems, utilize science and technology to provide socio-ecological solutions, and improve the welfare of the community through research downstreaming and partnerships, as well as carry out evaluations accountably.

The deputy minister underlined that impactful higher education must be realized through a change in mindset, applicable research, research result downstreaming, and community service.

"In line with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, higher education must be transformative. Universities must create excellent human resources, conduct impactful research, and provide a real contribution towards 2045 Golden Indonesia."

Meanwhile, Head of the Higher Education Service Institution for Region XII, Jantje Eduard Lekatompessy, stressed the importance of realizing universities that can really provide benefits to the community.
