Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung is encouraging residents of the capital who are still seeking employment to consider becoming Indonesian migrant workers abroad, as part of efforts to reduce the province’s unemployment rate.

“I strongly encourage residents to work overseas, and we are providing foreign language training to support this,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday.

The governor emphasized the importance of learning languages such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Arabic to expand employment opportunities abroad. “We’re pushing for this,” he added.

In addition to language training, the Jakarta provincial government is also organizing job fairs, targeting a total of 21 events this year.

“So far, 13 job fairs have been held, successfully connecting job seekers with available vacancies,” he said.

According to him, evaluations of the job fairs held by the Jakarta Provincial Government indicate that they have effectively matched job seekers with employers across various participating companies.

Previously, Jakarta’s Statistics Agency (BPS) released labor force data from the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), showing that the capital had a labor force of 5.47 million people as of February 2025, an increase of 41,620 compared to February 2024.

The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) rose by 0.23 percentage points year-on-year.
