Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has officially formed the Mineral Industry Agency in an effort to optimize the management of Indonesia's strategic mineral resources.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi noted that the agency is led by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, who was inaugurated as the agency's head at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.

"To optimize natural resources, especially strategic minerals, we decided to form an agency," Hadi said after the inauguration event.

According to him, the establishment of the agency is to address the nation's needs in facing the developments of the times and technology, as well as an effort to protect the country's natural resources.

He noted that Yuliarto was appointed as the agency's head on account of his capacity in research and innovation.

Thus, Hadi continued, the minister could collaborate with research institutions and universities to streamline the work of the agency.

He emphasized that the Mineral Industry Agency operates as a standalone agency, not under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

The main task of the agency is to protect strategic minerals, identify mineral resources in the country, and conduct research on mineral resources management to optimize their potential.

Yuliarto was inaugurated by President Prabowo on Monday in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 77P of 2025 on the Appointment of Mineral Industry Agency Head.

On that occasion, the President inaugurated several other state officials, including Police Commissioner General Eddy Hartono as the new head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and Police Inspector General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
