The Cek Kesehatan Gratis (CKG) initiative goes beyond physical checkups to screen for mental and emotional conditions such as depression, anxiety, and social difficulties, Batam Health Office Head Didi Kusmarjadi said.
"CKG (free health checkup) offers a comprehensive view of adolescent health, helping detect issues early before they escalate," he said.
Recent screening results show mental health problems are most common among children aged 11 to 18, from late elementary to high school levels. The data helps medical teams recommend follow-up care and interventions.
According to him, the screening results are returned to schools to support the establishment of adolescent integrated service posts (posyandu) and to provide education on first aid for psychological issues.

"If a problem arises, children have a place to share or seek help. With this approach, children can receive guidance early, even before issues develop into more serious problems,"Didi added.
Meanwhile, Vanny, a doctor at Belakangpadang Community Health Center (Puskesmas), stated that mental health issues in adolescents occur due to hormonal changes that affect both physical and mental conditions.
"Teenagers often compare themselves with peers, whether in terms of physical appearance or lifestyle," she said.
For example, girls who have just started menstruating may worry about height, diet, or become obsessed with skincare. "Such situations can trigger anxiety and discomfort among friends," she added.
As a follow-up, doctors and health workers who identify mental health problems in children will refer students to community health centers and encourage active school participation.
"Exposure to educational materials, cadre training, and the creation of a supportive school environment are steps that we are also promoting through this program," she said.
