Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry has deployed two teams to monitor and evaluate nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), or kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, in 35 districts and cities forming Central Java.

This was conveyed by Noudy Tendean, Secretary of the ministry’s Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN), during a meeting on SPPG development and operations in Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday (August 26), according to a statement cited here on Wednesday.

He explained that one team, formed by the BSKDN, is responsible for 18 regions, while the remaining 17 regions are covered by a team fielded by the ministry’s Directorate General of Regional Administrations.

The two teams are tasked with overseeing the entire development process of SPPGs, including land procurement and certification, road access, spatial planning, clean water and electricity supply, and environmental aspects, he added.

He noted that the central government had provided financial support for SPPG construction through the Ministry of Public Works, while the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is tasked with ensuring the optimal operations of MBG kitchens.

"Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has directed that construction begin in September and operations commence in December after completing the necessary processes," Tendean noted.

Highlighting the MBG program's significance, he described it as a strategic effort to improve the quality of human resources in pursuit of Indonesia’s golden era by its centennial year in 2045.

In this context, he stressed that improving the nutritional intake of the public is essential to producing a smart, healthy, and globally competitive generation.

Tendean also commended the Central Java provincial government for its strong commitment to advancing the MBG program, including a proposal to develop SPPGs in 134 locations across the province.

He further called on stakeholders at the provincial, district, and municipal levels to work in synergy to accelerate the establishment of SPPGs to advance the national program.
