Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung explained that the current method, which relies on photocopies of ID cards, is inefficient and makes it difficult for the government to ensure the subsidy reaches the intended beneficiaries, such as low-income households, micro-businesses, fishermen, and farmers.
“We already have a system, but we’re working to improve its performance so buyers won’t need to repeatedly submit ID copies,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The new system aims to eliminate the need for repeated ID submissions and will align data with the beneficiaries' official domicile, ensuring more accurate and targeted distribution, Tanjung said.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ministry to transition to a beneficiary-based subsidy model.
The ministry plans to introduce a single national tariff for 3-kg LPG cylinders in 2026 through revisions to Presidential Regulations No. 104/2007 and No. 38/2019.
Implementation will consider data readiness, infrastructure, and the community’s social and economic conditions.
