Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stated that training for newly elected regents should be conducted in military camps rather than five-star hotels to build a strong leadership mindset.

“Training for regents should take place in military camps. If necessary, not in five-star hotels,” the President said during his speech at the 2025 Apkasi Autonomy Expo in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday.

He noted that around 80 percent of Indonesia’s regents are newly elected and need to quickly learn how to run their administrations.

Prabowo also urged the regents not to hesitate in seeking assistance and guidance from the central government, including the Minister of Home Affairs, when addressing community issues. The President expressed his readiness to allocate state funds to support training programs for regional leaders.

At the same event, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian reported that nearly 80 percent of regional heads elected in February 2025 were new to the position and lacked leadership experience, underscoring the need for direct guidance from the President.

Of the 548 regional heads inaugurated, only 20 percent had prior experience at the executive level in local government.
