“The Police Chief has assured us the process will be handled openly. We will be given the broadest possible access to information, as transparently as possible,”
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has pledged to closely monitor the investigation into the death of an online motorcycle taxi driver who was run over by a Mobile Brigade tactical vehicle during a protest that turned violent.

“This is not about whether Kompolnas is ready or not. Kompolnas will ensure the case is monitored thoroughly and transparently,” Kompolnas member Muhammad Choirul Anam said in Jakarta on Friday.

He said he had met with the victim’s family, who are seeking justice for the driver’s death.

Anam stressed that Kompolnas will oversee the case from start to finish to ensure every process is properly monitored.

He added that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also committed to handling the case transparently.

“The Police Chief has assured us the process will be handled openly. We will be given the broadest possible access to information, as transparently as possible,” he said.

Earlier, the Head of the National Police’s Professional and Security Division (Propam), Inspector General Abdul Karim, also confirmed that the case would be handled transparently.

“The investigation is being conducted quickly and openly,” Karim told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that the inquiry involves not only Propam at the National Police Headquarters but also the Mobile Brigade Corps, as the driver of the vehicle was a Brimob member.

In addition, the case is being coordinated with Kompolnas to ensure transparency.

“We have coordinated with Kompolnas so they can be directly involved in monitoring several stages of the investigation,” Karim added.
