Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the Presidential Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) will include copyright issues related to AI utilization.

In this regard, he affirmed that his ministry had coordinated with the Ministry of Law to ensure that the matters are regulated.

Patria, at the office of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Jakarta on Friday, stated that the regulation, which is currently being drafted, will strengthen other regulations that the government has issued previously.

They include the circular on AI ethics, Electronic Information and Transactions Law, Personal Data Protection Law, and other regulations regarding electronic system providers.

The presidential regulation will regulate the general principles for the development and utilization of AI in various sectors. These principles will be used as guidelines in the implementation of AI in various fields.

According to him, the drafting of the presidential regulation is targeted for completion in September 2025, after going through a harmonization process with the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of State Secretariat to avoid overlapping with existing regulations.

The deputy minister underscored that the regulation will regulate AI adoption that upholds the principles of transparency, accountability, safety, and respect for copyrights.

"All the principles of AI ethics are included and accommodated in future regulations, including ensuring they refer to the core values of our people and nation, namely Pancasila," he said.

In addition to the presidential regulation, the Indonesian government is currently preparing the AI Road Map, which will serve as a guideline for developing an inclusive and responsible AI ecosystem.

The government has determined five priority sectors for AI development, which are health, digital talent education, bureaucratic reform, smart city development, and food security, to ensure that digital transformation promotes fairness and people’s welfare.
