Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has said that the government is pushing to complete and issue the national road map on artificial intelligence (AI) utilization in June 2025.

"From there, we will create a derivative in the form of an AI regulation," Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid informed after a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

She emphasized that the government is aware that clear directions and regulations are needed to ensure AI is used optimally and to reduce its negative impacts.

To prepare the road map, the government has opened opportunities for discussion with several parties, such as technology company GoTo and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), since early 2025, she said.

"Currently, we are inviting stakeholders to discuss the AI regulation, and it is indeed very dynamic. Every time we meet with stakeholders, there is always a new input because AI is also a technology that transforms all the time," she added.

Hafid emphasized that the government is making detailed and careful preparations to devise a comprehensive regulation.

The minister also expressed the hope that the road map will not limit creativity and innovation in AI.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said that the government is not only focusing on preparing the road map but also creating digital talents, including through the Digital Talent Scholarship program.

The program was launched in response to a World Bank survey, which said that Indonesia will need at least nine million digital talents by 2030 to support significant growth in the digital economy.
