The statement was delivered by Head of the Public Relations Division of the Polri, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, following the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo's directives.
Nugroho stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the National Police Chief, and Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto to take decisive action against anarchic acts in several regions.
However, he stated that all enforcement actions taken by the authorities will be carried out in accordance with laws and other provisions.
"All steps taken by the National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces in the field are measured, professional, and in accordance with their authority and applicable regulations. We ensure that this matter is handled responsibly," he said.
In taking action, the National Police will implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and stage the handling of the situation in a disciplined manner.
"Our focus is on protecting the public, personnel, command headquarters, dormitories, and other vital objects to ensure the situation remains safe and under control," he noted.
Nugroho also emphasized that all levels of the regional police (Polda), district police (Polres), and sub-district police (Polsek) have been instructed to follow up on the National Police Chief's directives quickly and accurately.
These directives included gathering data on ongoing issues, making preparations and plans for personnel, methods of action, and the infrastructure needed to follow up on handling anarchic acts in a proportional and professional manner.
In addition, the synergy between the TNI and Polri will continue to be strengthened to ensure public security and order are maintained.
Furthermore, the two-star police general also urged all levels of society to remain calm and work together to maintain a conducive situation.
"We respect the public's right to express their opinions, but their implementation must comply with legal provisions and not harm the public interest. We urge all parties to maintain order and support the efforts of the TNI and Polri in maintaining security and stability," he remarked.
