President Director of Bulog, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani emphasized that the GPM aims to maintain price stability, ensure food affordability, and control national inflation.
"Bulog is fully committed to stabilizing food prices and supplies. Through GPM, the public can access affordable SPHP rice, while simultaneously strengthening their purchasing power," he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday,
He stated that rice price stability has been a primary concern for the government in recent months.
To that end, Bulog, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Food Agency (Bapanas), and the Ministry of Home Affairs, continue to distribute affordable rice through the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program to ensure market prices remain stable and affordable for the public.
In commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, Bulog, along with several state-owned enterprises such as Pos Indonesia, Pupuk Indonesia, ID Food, and Perkebunan Nusantara, held a simultaneous GPM program in 7,285 sub-districts across 38 provinces on Saturday.
"This activity is a concrete effort by the government to bring affordable food directly to the people," he said.
The GPM was centered at the Ministry of Agriculture Office in Jakarta and took place simultaneously in 44 locations throughout Jakarta.
During the activity, people could purchase a 5-kilogram package of SPHP rice for Rp60,000, significantly lower than the market price.
To maintain stability, the government has also set a Highest Retail Price (HET) for SPHP rice at Rp12,500 per kilogram (kg) for Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi; and Rp13,100 per kg for Sumatra (except Lampung and South Sumatra), East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, and RP13,500 per kg for Maluku and Papua.
"As of August 29, 2025, Bulog has distributed 287,000 tons of SPHP rice to all regions," he noted.
In addition to distribution, Bulog also operates a public complaints service, to ensure oversight and transparency.
He stated that GPM is not merely a means of distributing affordable food, but also a crucial instrument for suppressing price fluctuations, maintaining inflation, and ensuring that people can access staple foods at affordable prices.
As previously reported, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian emphasized that food price stability is the government's top priority.
The Minister also encouraged regional governments to be more active in monitoring food prices.
He proposed intensive coordination through an online forum attended by heads of relevant agencies to regularly report on developments in staple food prices.
