Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jayakarta Regional Military Command deployed a company-level unit to patrol Jakarta on Sunday to prevent violence and looting following recent incidents.

The patrol began at the National Monument in Central Jakarta and continued through areas where demonstrations had taken place, from Semanggi to Senayan and beyond.

The Commander of the Jayakarta Regional Military Command, Major General Deddy Suryadi, affirmed his troops’ commitment to ensuring public safety.

"There are several offices, ministries, and public facilities here that are part of our security measures," he said before dispatching the troops.

In the Senayan area of Central Jakarta, the Indonesian National Forces (TNI) patrol encountered demonstrators near the parliament complex. The soldiers dismounted and immediately dispersed the protesters and those gathering on motorcycles.

The soldiers wore bulletproof vests but carried no firearms or sharp weapons.

The patrol convoy briefly stopped in front of Senayan Park to disperse demonstrators and restore normal traffic flow.

Suryadi added that the situation in Jakarta is gradually returning to normal and urged residents to keep their families from participating in any anarchic acts.

"The security, comfort and order of Jakarta belong to all of us, so let us protect one another," he said.
