Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra affirmed that the overall security situation in the country is safe, despite recent unrest that took place in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar.

Herindra stated that BIN is still investigating the mastermind behind the incidents, which were marked by arson targeting regional legislative council (DPRD) buildings, police stations, and looting of the homes of several members of the House of Representatives (DPR) as well as the residence of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

“We will investigate this,” Herindra told reporters in response to a question about who was behind the unrest, when met at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

Herindra was summoned by President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday afternoon to the Presidential Palace. He noted that his visit was to deliver important information to the President, but did not disclose any further details.

At the same location, around the same time, President Prabowo also summoned the Head of the Agency for Development Control and Special Investigation Aries Marsudiyanto to the Palace.

Marsudiyanto informed that President Prabowo wanted to give directives to his officials.

Responding to questions about the current situation in recent days, he reminded that President Prabowo has called on all elements of society to unite.

“Unity is the key for Indonesia to progress. The President has also instructed all ministries and agencies to keep open dialogue channels with the people. The same applies to the DPR, which has also opened a dialogue space to accommodate all people,” he said.

When united, Indonesia will be able to move forward with its development agenda and achieve its vision of becoming an advanced nation, he added.

“If we can maintain strong communication and coordination, this nation is ready for takeoff, to advance, just as we have long aspired to,” he concluded.
