Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) is intensifying its monitoring of digital spaces to detect provocative content and prevent the spread of narratives that could incite unrest or disrupt public order.

"Kemkomdigi is monitoring issues to detect provocative narrative content," said Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the ministry, when confirmed by ANTARA on Thursday.

He explained that his office is working with cyber agencies to carry out cyber patrols and coordinate responses to potential waves of digital provocation.

Sabar noted that the ministry is also applying a regulatory approach by requiring Electronic System Operators (PSE) to implement independent moderation mechanisms for such content.

Efforts to strengthen digital literacy are also being promoted to help the public avoid being swayed by provocative narratives on social media.

Sabar said the ministry continues to encourage people to exercise caution online and to distinguish between healthy political criticism and incitement.

As previously reported, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Angga Raka Prabowo urged social media platform managers to help protect the public from inaccurate information, including disinformation, slander, and hate speech (DFK), which he said could erode the foundations of democracy.

“This undermines the foundations of democracy. For example, when we want to express an aspiration or an opinion, but suddenly social media is supplemented with inaccurate information, it weakens our spirit to convey those aspirations,” Angga said.

He stressed that inaccurate information circulating on social media discourages people from expressing their aspirations and opinions.

For this reason, he called on all parties, including platform managers, to work together in verifying information to safeguard the digital space.

Angga added that if content contains DFK, platform managers must automatically take action through their systems.

He also reminded platform operators in Indonesia to comply with national laws and regulations.
