Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is open to the House of Representatives (DPR) revising and taking over the draft Asset Confiscation Bill that the government has already completed.

This follows the DPR's plan to take initiative on the bill, which would transfer the process from the government to the legislative branch, said Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra.

"From the government's side, we are ready to discuss the bill whenever the DPR submits it to President Prabowo," Mahendra said here on Monday.

He urged all parties not to doubt the government's commitment. Once the DPR is ready, the President will appoint ministers to represent the government in the bill discussions.

Mahendra noted that the Asset Forfeiture Bill was initially submitted during the administration of President Joko Widodo in 2023.

At that time, former Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD and former Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly were appointed to lead the government's side in the bill discussions.

However, the bill has not yet been discussed by the DPR. President Prabowo has since encouraged DPR Speaker Puan Maharani to expedite the process.

He added that Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas has already attended meetings at the DPR regarding changes to the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), and the Asset Confiscation Bill has been included in the 2025-2026 Prolegnas.

"Hopefully, the bill can be finalized next year," he said.

Previously, Deputy Chair of the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg), Sturman Panjaitan, said the DPR is open to taking over the bill, currently listed as a government initiative bill within the 2024-2029 medium-term Prolegnas.
