Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted Indonesia’s economic stability despite the nationwide protests and riots that swept the country last month.

“We witnessed demonstrations that turned into riots yesterday, but our economy remains stable,” the president said during a round-table discussion with editors-in-chief of Indonesian mass media at his residence on Saturday

In an official statement released Monday, Prabowo attributed the country’s resilience to the rational awareness of the nation’s elite and stakeholders, who he said prioritize national and public interests over their own.

He also underscored the strong political and economic fundamentals that helped the nation remain steady amid political turbulence and public unrest.

“By prioritizing the interests of the nation and the people, I believe we will rise faster,” he added.

The president urged citizens to remain prudent in responding to narratives that, according to him, misrepresent Indonesia’s actual condition.

“I firmly believe that some parties are trying to portray Indonesians as angry right now. I believe our people are mature. There are deficiencies in many places, but we are working to resolve them together,” he remarked.

Citing economic indicators that reflect Indonesia’s underlying strength, Prabowo stated that almost all government policies have produced tangible results.

“The Nutritious Free Meal program has reached 25 million recipients. We expect it to cover 82.9 million beneficiaries by December. If not December, I believe we will achieve it in January 2026,” he said, reaffirming his confidence in his government’s strategies.

Prabowo also noted substantial growth in economic activity at the village and sub-district levels. “The farmers’ exchange rate has soared, and farmers’ incomes have risen accordingly,” he added.
