Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono ensured the right to education for the children of the late Zetro Leonardo Purba, a staff member at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, who was shot dead by an unknown assailant in Peru last week.

"We will take care of the family he left behind. We will provide the best possible care," the minister remarked on Tuesday (September 9).

His party will ensure the family's welfare through medical care, including the care of both the wife and children of the late Zetro Leonardo Purba.

"Farewell, Zetro, our brother. May you rest in peace. We will continue your struggle," Sugiono added.

He said the tragic experience of the late Zetro left a deep wound for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as has the family, who share the same deep sorrow over his passing.

Therefore, the government is committed to resolving and providing legal certainty in handling the case, including by coordinating with the Peruvian government to monitor the case development.

On that occasion, Sugiono prayed for the late Zetro Leonardo to be given the best place by the side of Almighty God and patience for his family.

"We pray that he rests in peace with Almighty God, where we will all return. We send off our brother with great sorrow, but we believe that he is in the best place by the side of Almighty God," he conveyed.

Meanwhile, Zetro's family member, Tiopan Purba, thanked the government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their attention in facilitating the repatriation of Zetro's body to Indonesia.

The family also appreciated Sugiono's commitment to ensuring support for Zetro's children.

Tiopan also believes that the Indonesian government will continue to monitor the ongoing investigation by Peruvian authorities.

"We believe the government will investigate this thoroughly," he noted.

Zetro was reported dead after being shot three times by an unidentified assailant near his residence in the Lince area of Lima, on September 1, according to local media outlet Panamericana Television.

Zetro arrived in Peru five months ago to begin his assignment at the Indonesian Embassy in Lima, following a previous posting at the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Melbourne.

Police and forensic teams have conducted a crime scene investigation, and the Indonesian Embassy in Lima has coordinated with the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident.
