Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is ensuring swift response, including the immediate distribution of basic logistical aid, to ease the burden on communities affected by the floods in Bali on Wednesday.

BNPB Head Suharyanto informed to reporters that basic logistics such as food, clothing, tents, and other supplies have been prepared, and that the regional government will ensure the smooth distribution of aid.

"Urgent needs assessments are also being conducted as we speak," he added.

BNPB confirmed that flash floods have hit four districts/cities in Bali, namely Denpasar City, Jembrana District, Gianyar District, and Tabanan District.

According to the agency's latest data, two people have died in the disaster, and four are missing in the search.

"This is preliminary data, but we will be in Bali today to lead emergency response operations with the regional government," he conveyed, while hoping that such a swift response will help meet the basic needs of affected residents and expedite the post-flood recovery process.

Basarnas, through the Bali Search and Rescue (SAR) Office, reported that a joint team is trying to access flooded areas to evacuate residents.

The Head of the Bali SAR Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, informed that access to the mapped locations was difficult because flooding occurred in almost all areas due to extreme rain for more than 24 hours, including in Denpasar.

As of 11:00 a.m. local time, Bali SAR Office had deployed personnel to the worst-hit areas in Denpasar, namely Pulau Misol, Pulau Biak 1, Pura Demak, and the Teuku Umar area, evacuating two toddlers, two elderly people, and three adults.

Given the ongoing rain, Sidakarya urged residents to self-evacuate before conditions worsen and further flooding occurs, noting his office’s limited personnel and rubber boats.
