Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that cybersecurity readiness must be a priority in developing the digital economy, as the banking sector remains a primary target for cyberattacks.

According to Wirjoatmodjo, phishing and ransomware attacks occur daily, particularly targeting Indonesia’s major digital banking applications such as Livin' Mandiri, BRImo, and Byond BSI.

"The most important thing is for our human capital to prepare cyber troops and cyber patrols that actively safeguard our entire digital ecosystem," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Wirjoatmodjo explained that cyber threats not only test the readiness of security technology but also the integrity of public trust in the national financial system.

He noted that Indonesian banks have been strengthening digital security systems over the past five years.

For instance, the Ministry of SOEs, together with Bank Indonesia and all Indonesian banks, has built a payment ecosystem from the ground up, including infrastructure, hardware, software, API integration, and security.

To mitigate cyberattacks, Wirjoatmodjo emphasized that developing a digital ecosystem must go hand in hand with strengthening security infrastructure, starting with encryption, multifactor authentication, and integrated application development governance.

He believes this step can minimize the risks of hacking and phishing.

"So, we don’t think about security after the service is delivered. Instead, we build it together, embedded and integrated into the application development process," he explained.
