“The total number of deaths is 18: 12 from Denpasar City, three from Gianyar District, two from Jembrana District, and one from Badung District,” said I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, Head of the Bali BPBD, in Denpasar on Friday.
He added that, in addition to these 18 victims, two others remain on the joint search and rescue team’s list.
According to the Bali BPBD's summary, as of the morning of the third day since the massive flooding hit Bali, particularly Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Buleleng, on early Wednesday, September 10, the recorded incidents include flooding in 163 locations, landslides in 64 locations, fallen trees in 35 locations, broken bridges in two locations, damaged roads in three locations, and collapsed walls in 21 locations.
Floods were most widespread in the capital of Bali Province, Denpasar City with 81 locations affected, followed by 28 locations in Tabanan District, 23 in Jembrana District, 15 in Gianyar District, 12 in Badung District, and four in Karangasem District.
Most landslides occurred in Tabanan District with 43 locations, while fallen trees were also most numerous in Tabanan (17 locations). Two damaged roads were reported in Bangli District, and the most collapsed walls were in Karangasem District (11 locations).
Based on this preliminary report, Agung Teja estimates damage to 514 buildings at approximately Rp28.9 billion (around US$1.76 million).
In Denpasar City, damaged structures include 474 stalls, kiosks, and shophouses along Jalan Sulawesi and Kumbasari Market, and three buildings in Bangli District.
Furthermore, in Tabanan District, 29 buildings were damaged, six in Karangasem District, and one in Gianyar District, with assessments still ongoing.
Over the past three days, the government has also set up evacuation posts, which have gradually reduced the number of evacuees as conditions improve.
Currently, evacuation posts operate in Denpasar City, sheltering 186 people across six locations, and in Jembrana District, with 250 evacuees across two posts.
