Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that central and regional governments have coordinated efforts to accelerate Bali’s recovery after floods struck several areas on Wednesday.

“All ministries and agencies have taken action according to their respective duties, working with local governments at the district and city levels to expedite repairs to damaged public facilities and homes,” BNPB Head Suharyanto stated in a release received here on Friday.

According to him, as stipulated in Law 24/2007, BNPB serves as a cross-ministerial coordinating body in handling both emergency response and recovery phases.

BNPB has worked with the Ministry of Social Affairs on refugee management, public kitchens, and aid distribution.

Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf was scheduled to visit Bali on Friday to ensure basic public services for affected residents.

Major infrastructure repairs, such as damaged roads and bridges, fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Public Works, supported by BNPB, with additional involvement from the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education will oversee the repair of damaged schools, while the Ministry of Religious Affairs will handle restoration of places of worship.

Suharyanto added that a joint team is still compiling a detailed assessment of damage to houses, roads, bridges, and public facilities. Initial reports show at least 474 kiosks and shophouses were affected.

He further emphasized that the disaster serves as a reminder of the impacts of climate change, highlighting the importance of preparedness for shifting weather patterns and sustainable spatial planning.

The hydrometeorological disaster followed more than 24 hours of heavy rain starting Tuesday (September 9).

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported rainfall reaching 385 millimeters—equivalent to a full month’s accumulation.

As of Thursday evening, 16 people were confirmed dead, one missing, and 562 displaced to temporary evacuation centers.

BNPB has distributed relief items including 200 blankets, 200 mattresses, 300 food packages, 50 family tents, two refugee tents, one motorized rubber boat, and three water pumps.
