Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto flew to Doha, Qatar, to personally convey Jakarta’s support to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following Israel’s recent airstrike on a residential area in the capital.

Speaking from Jakarta on Friday afternoon, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that President Prabowo held an immediate meeting with Emir Al Thani upon arriving in Doha.

“Today, President Prabowo flew to Doha to meet with the emir on Friday afternoon local time. He decided to make the visit promptly in response to Israel’s attack on Doha on Tuesday, September 9,” Wijaya stated.

Accompanying the president, Wijaya emphasized that the official visit was intended to demonstrate Indonesia’s solidarity with the Qatari government and people amid escalating regional tensions.

Journalists reported that the presidential aircraft departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Friday morning. Upon arrival, President Prabowo was received by Emir Al Thani.

The Israeli military reportedly launched unilateral airstrikes on a residential area in Doha, claiming to target senior members of the Palestinian organization Hamas. The group had gathered for ceasefire negotiations mediated by the United States and Egypt.

According to reports, 15 fighter jets were deployed and 10 bombs were dropped in the fatal attack, which killed five Hamas delegates and one Qatari security officer. A funeral for the victims was held on Thursday, September 11, with Emir Al Thani joining the prayer service.

In response, Qatar has vowed that Israel will face a collective reaction from regional partners.

“We are currently discussing a response with our partners in the region,” Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on Wednesday, September 10.
