The Asset Forfeiture Bill is now a DPR initiative, having previously been under the government’s purview.
“So, let’s have a little more patience on the bill. The political commitment is already there,” Agtas said during a press conference here on Monday.
The minister expressed optimism that discussions on the bill would move forward more quickly now that it is part of the DPR’s initiatives, noting that the government is fully prepared and the draft document has been finalized.
Agtas also explained that the government does not object to the Asset Forfeiture Bill being deliberated after the completion of discussions on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) Bill.
“The KUHAP Bill is just awaiting a final decision, so things should move quickly,” he added.
Earlier, Agtas had agreed to the DPR’s proposal to include the Asset Forfeiture Bill in the 2025 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
The DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg) proposed three bills for prioritization this year: the Asset Forfeiture Bill, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Bill, and the Industrial Zone Bill.
“The government supports the DPR’s initiative to include the three bills in the 2025 Prolegnas review,” Agtas said.
He also confirmed that the government had been ready to move forward with discussions on the Asset Forfeiture Bill and said that the DPR had fulfilled its commitment to take over the drafting process.
Meanwhile, DPR Legislative Body Chair Bob Hasan explained that the Asset Forfeiture Bill, initially a government proposal listed in the 2024–2029 Medium-Term Prolegnas, has now been proposed as a DPR initiative.
