Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Head of the KNMP Development Team Trian Yunanda stated that the locations were formalized under Ministerial Decree No. 55 of 2025.
The development of these villages is targeted for completion by December 2, 2025, with a total budget of Rp1.34 trillion (approximately US$81.6 million).
To meet the national target of 100 KNMPs by the end of 2025, the ministry is currently proposing an additional budget to the Ministry of Finance for the development of 35 more villages.
“We are finalizing the budget proposal for the second phase, which we expect to launch by the end of October 2025,” Yunanda said.
The 65 first-phase locations span 17 provinces, including Aceh, Banten, Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, Gorontalo, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Riau Islands, Lampung, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Southwest Papua, and South Papua.
On the same occasion, the Director of Fishers Protection and Empowerment at the ministry, Mahrus, emphasized that the KNMP program goes beyond residential development.
“This initiative includes comprehensive infrastructure support—piers, roads, drainage systems, and electricity—to ensure the villages are fully functional,” Mahrus said.
The program, which aims to reach 1,100 fishing villages by 2027, will also equip communities with cold storage facilities, ice factories, workshops, logistics centers, and fuel stations.
“This initiative is aligned with our quota-based measured fishing system, which promotes fair and sustainable fisheries governance,” the director said.
Each village is projected to generate up to 70 jobs, including fishers and operators of production facilities.
“We’re also providing fishing vessel assistance to enhance productivity in KNMP locations,” he noted.
