“This is not a new agency, but a transformation from the PCO. We have been tasked with strengthening coordination, execution, and communication functions across ministries and institutions, and this is also in line with my position as Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs,” Angga told reporters at the State Palace here on Wednesday, (September 17).
According to Angga, President Prabowo Subianto appointed him to replace Hasan Nasbi as head of the PCO in order to reinforce government communication across ministries and agencies.
He explained that the Government Communication Agency was established to deliver the president’s priority programs to the public while serving as a bridge between the government, the media, and society.
He added that the agency’s role is also to ensure that policies are communicated comprehensively without overlapping narratives.
“This way there will be no overlap, no conflicting narratives. The main goal is simply strengthening communication. We will continue to engage with our colleagues in the media,” he said.
As part of the restructuring, Angga noted that a Presidential Decree will be issued to regulate the specific functions of the Government Communication Agency.
He also stressed that the agency’s role is aligned with his ongoing position as Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs.
“I remain Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs because the functions there are still focused on public communication. We also coordinate broadcasting and public communication institutions, so the key point is strengthening communication,” Angga said.
Angga confirmed that he will continue to assist Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafidz, as both positions share the same focus on public communication.
