The collaboration was outlined in a Letter of Intent between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Kinshasa City Government at the Jakarta International Investment, Trade, Tourism, Small and Medium Enterprise Expo (JITEC) 2025 in Jakarta, on Thursday.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that as metropolitan cities and centers of national activity, Jakarta and Kinshasa play important roles for their respective countries.
Both cities, he continued, are facing similar challenges, including rapid urbanization, the climate crisis, and the sustainable development agenda.
Therefore, the collaboration allows the two cities to exchange experiences and create joint solutions to realize the vision of collaborative public service delivery, he said.
The deputy governor said that the partnership aligns with the Jakarta Provincial Government's grand vision of becoming a top 20 inclusive global city.
"We are realizing the vision through improving public services in various sectors, starting with the development of mass transportation, such as MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta, as well as transit-oriented development (TOD) areas," he explained.
At the same time, he said, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also strengthening the sports, youth, cultural preservation, and creative economy sectors, including the designation of Jakarta as a cinema city.
That way, city development will not only focus on infrastructure, but also on the quality of life and cultural identity of the community.
"Hopefully, the partnership will become a bridge of friendship between the two cities, and the people will continue to grow, inspire, and open up real opportunities for mutual progress," Karno said.
