Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced an agreement with private gas station companies, namely Shell, Vivo, BP, and Exxon Mobil, to purchase additional fuel stocks through an import scheme via Pertamina.

He conveyed this after attending a meeting with the management of those companies in Jakarta on Friday.

"They agreed, and indeed they must agree to purchase, in collaboration with Pertamina," Lahadalia remarked in a press conference following the meeting.

According to the minister, the agreement stipulates several requirements for the additional fuel import scheme through collaboration with the state-owned oil company, Pertamina, including the requirement that purchased fuel must be base fuel, which will later be blended in each station's tanker.

"So, the product will be blended at each station," he confirmed.

Further conditions also require private gas stations to submit a joint survey regarding fuel stock purchases and transparency regarding purchase prices, he added.

"We want both the private sector and Pertamina to profit equally, everything must be transparent, and we have agreed to an open book. Our colleagues from the private sector have also agreed," Lahadalia added.

He then stated that the new fuel import stock will arrive in Indonesia within seven days at the latest, and the additional import volume from private gas stations will be discussed further in a technical meeting.

Lahadalia said the government has allocated a 10 percent additional fuel import quota for private gas stations this year, but the quota has been running low, resulting in private gas stations experiencing fuel shortages.

To address this, the government is asking private gas stations to collaborate with Pertamina to meet consumer demand.

Lahadalia said the key reason for reinforcing this collaboration is related to the fuel industry that impacts many people's livelihoods, which must be regulated by the state, as stipulated by current regulations.

"The industry branches that control the livelihoods of many people are controlled by the state," he emphasized.
