Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is strengthening promotion and expanding penetration of the Indonesian tourism market, particularly for the Riau Islands destination to the Singapore market, through the implementation of Batam Bintan Welcome You (BBWY) II Festival.

"We assess the potential for foreign tourist visits from Singapore to the Riau Islands as very high," the Ministry's Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said when confirmed here on Friday.

Marthini said the activity, which was held on September 1–7, 2025 at Sengkang Grand Mall, Singapore, was part of a series of integrated promotions for destinations in Batam and Bintan.

The event was also held as a continuation of BBWY I, which was previously held on June 30-July 6, 2025 at Jurong Point Mall, Singapore.

There are 10 tourism industry players, including travel agents and tour operators (TA/TO), hotels, and spa service providers.

During this promotional event, the ministry wants to take advantage of the opportunity to promote various attractive tour packages in the two regions to increase foreign tourist visits to Indonesia, especially those from Singapore.

According to data on international tourist arrivals from January to July 2025, the number of tourists from Singapore visiting Indonesia has reached 822,993. More than 50 percent of these arrived by sea.

"This figure makes Singapore one of Indonesia's main tourism markets," said Marthini.

She believes this data is also the reason why promoting Batam and Bintan destinations in Singapore is very strategic to support the target of 1.8 million Singaporean tourist visits to Indonesia.

The promotion is expected to strengthen the image of Batam and Bintan as prime destinations for Singaporean tourists. Moreover, Singapore and the Riau Islands have geographical proximity, easy transportation access, and competitive tourist attractions.

Marthini said the implementation of BBWY 2025 resulted in real transactions worth 7,239 Singapore dollars, equivalent to Rp92,318,967 (about US$5,547), with 33 people.

In addition, this activity also generated potential transactions worth 664,979 Singapore dollars, or equivalent to Rp8,480,477,187 (about US$509,437), with 162 people.

Other destinations that are popular and receive many questions from visitors besides Batam and Bintan are Bali, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
