Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo has established a special task force on institutional reform in a bid to strengthen accountability and professionalism within the force, police officials said on Monday.
“The national police chief has ordered his staff and ranks to form this team as part of responsibility and accountability,” police spokesman Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko told reporters in Jakarta.
The task force was formalized under a directive signed by Prabowo on Sept. 17, with order number Sprin/2749/IX/TUK.2.1/2025. It aims to oversee the police’s institutional transformation in cooperation with the government and other stakeholders through what officials described as a systematic approach.
“This is to accelerate the transformation of the police institution in line with public expectations,” Andiko said.
The reform initiative is anchored in the police’s 2025–2045 Grand Strategy and is designed to be broad and structural, involving all police units across Indonesia. A total of 52 senior and mid-ranking officers have been appointed to the team.
Prabowo will serve as patron of the task force, with Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo as adviser. The team will be chaired by Police Education and Training Institute Head Commissioner General Chryshnanda Dwilaksana.
The move comes after President Prabowo Subianto earlier appointed General (HOR) Ahmad Dofiri as his special adviser on public order and police reform. The president is also preparing a decree to establish a formal Police Reform Commission.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the task force’s mission is to evaluate and improve police performance and services.
“The president’s wish is, of course, that we all value the police institution, but there are several areas that may require improvement and evaluation,” Hadi said.
“That is common for any institution, and it is in line with the president’s direction to strengthen the professionalism of the police," he added.
The reform push comes amid heightened public scrutiny of Indonesia’s police in recent years, following calls for greater transparency, accountability, and improved public service delivery.
