Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Center for Religious Harmony (PKUB) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs is strengthening the capacity of peace facilitators in various regions prone to social and religious conflicts.

Head of PKUB Adib Abdushomad stated that several regions, such as Sukabumi and Depok, as well as those in West Sumatra Province, will be a priority in the conflict resolution training program that will be held in the near future.

"We planned a training for conflict resolution facilitators next month, especially for regions like West Java and West Sumatra," he said here on Tuesday.

As part of the initiative, he said, the PKUB will hold a special training for prospective peace facilitators that will be held in Batam, Riau Islands.

He explained that the participants will undergo a certification process, which will help them have the capacity in mediation and handling religion-based conflicts.

Abdushomad further said that the training will involve representatives from regions, especially those with a potential or past history of conflicts.

As a preventive measure, the ministry will launch an early detection system for social and religious conflicts named Si Rukun. The application is set to be launched on September 29, 2025, and is expected to strengthen the state's role in preventing conflict escalations early.

"The PKUB's task is to preserve harmony. Thus, before conflict escalates, we need an early warning system. Si Rukun is part of our strategy to prevent conflict," he remarked.

He added that once a conflict has already occurred, the role of the peace facilitators is crucial to mediate and resolve the problem at the grassroots level.

"We do not want to wait until a conflict breaks out. However, if it occurs, we at least have trained people to mediate," he said.
