Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said transportation policy must go beyond infrastructure development and function as a tool for social justice, ensuring equal access for all citizens.

“The Ministry of Transportation bears a major responsibility to ensure that land, sea, air, and rail transport contribute meaningfully to achieving social equity,” Dudy said Tuesday at the opening of the Forum on Equitable Transportation Chains in Jakarta.

He emphasized that national transport strategy aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of a fair economy and supports Indonesia Emas 2045, the country’s long-term development agenda leading up to its centennial.

Dudy said inclusive, safe, and efficient transport is essential for boosting regional connectivity, creating new economic centers, and closing the development gap between urban and remote regions.

“Transportation is not just about moving people or goods. It’s about access — to education, healthcare, food, and economic opportunity,” he said.

The forum addressed key initiatives such as the 2027 Zero Over Dimension Over Load (ODOL) policy to improve road safety and logistics competitiveness, and the optimization of terminal, port, and airport assets to become economic hubs.

It also reviewed the second phase of the Sea Toll Program and pioneer freight services aimed at lowering essential goods prices in remote areas.

Other strategies include deploying seaplanes and water taxis for island connectivity, extending the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Rail (KCJB), and developing Transit-Oriented Developments (TODs) to integrate housing and public transit.

The ministry also plans to develop integrated transport data systems and advance digital services to support evidence-based policymaking and transparent governance.

“Let this forum be more than just a discussion — let it drive real action and shared commitment,” Dudy said.

He concluded that success in transport should not be measured solely by infrastructure output, but by how well it delivers fair and inclusive access for all Indonesians.
